Having had an exhaust leak at the manifold surface on every Olds V-8 I
ever owned, I'd suggest you try some hi-temp RTV (the reddish-orange
stuff) on the gaskets before installing them. It seems to help and stands
up over time.

that his solution was to replace the 4100 with a small-block
Olds 307 or 350 -- indicating that it was a fairly simple exchange,
keeping the FI setup and computer! This sounds too good to be true but it
makes me wonder if this might be an overlooked option.

I wonder how it could be? The side greenhouse shape on a '69-72 4-4-2 is the same as the other A-bodies at the A-pillar/front door area, but over the rear side window and towards the C-pillar it is a smooth curve, where the others have sharp angles. I can't see how the same part would work.

super-soft original; the replacement was slightly harder rubber as opposed
to foamy rubber and had some little ridges in it, but worked fine.
