Education: - Advanced college degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Business or related work experience/certification. - 5+ Year’s proven experience and knowledge in Data Management, Data Movement and software development. *Job #2 : Business Intelligence Developer* Purpose: The Business Intelligence Developer will work with data architects and BI analysts to design and implement multidimensional cube solutions that meet the analytical and reporting needs of the business. This role will be part of a core team of individuals responsible for designing and implementing scalable Data Warehouse and Reporting solutions that will satisfy Markel’s informational needs. Roles and Responsibilities: - Analyze, Design and Implement multidimensional cube solutions using the SQL Server 2005 Microsoft Analysis Services technology. - Utilize multidimensional expressions (MDX) to add calculated members and other dynamically calculated values to the Analysis Services cubes. - Assist BI analysts and Cognos report developers in the creation of reporting and dashboard solutions against AS cube data sources. - Work closely with data architects and data modelers to create Star Schema relational databases that will be used to source Analysis Services cubes. - Participate in Quality Assurance testing to ensure the delivery of high quality solutions meeting or exceeding business user expectations. Position Requirements: - Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Computer Science - 3 - 5 years experience in designing and implementing Analysis Services cubes using SQL Server 2005 - 3 - 5 years experience using multidimensional expressions (MDX) within Analysis Services for calculating metrics. - Solid understanding of star schema, snowflake schemas and multidimensional cube architectures. - Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills. - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Experience with Cognos 8.x analysis and reporting software is a plus. - Basic knowledge of the Insurance industry experience is a strong plus. *Job #3: Data Analyst/SQL Developer* Purpose: The Data Analyst/SQL Developer will be part of a core team of individuals responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining scalable solutions that will support Markel’s analysis and reporting initiatives. The position will provide support in the areas of data profiling, data anomaly analysis, control pointing and data validation variance analysis and provide analytical support to the Data Management Review Board. Roles and Responsibilities: - Work with business users, business analysts, stakeholders and project managers to analyze data anomalies and inconsistencies in the ODS and Data Warehouse environments. - Analyze source system data using the Data Flux Profiling software to identify data quality issues. - Work with the ETL development teams to cleanse, conform and transform data into high quality information. - Support the Data Management Review board in the efforts to conform and standardize reference and control data form multiple source systems to the One Markel standard. - Analyze source to target mappings data transformation business rules and ensure that proper data controls are included in the ETL design. - Participate in Quality Assurance and Data Validation testing to ensure the delivery of high quality solutions meeting or exceeding business user expectations.
