I rebuilt the kernel without SMP, then rebuilt the openafs modules and

now the afsd loads. In the process I upgraded _to_ the kernel 2.4.30.

I have a Windows 2003 active directory with Windows XP clients
that has OpenAFS for Windows 1.3.81 and Kerberos for Windows
2.6.5 installed.
There is trusts established between ad.local and the CENTRAL
kerberos realm. There is also cross realm established between
LOCAL and CENTRAL.

Thanks for all your help, it seems as if all the problems have been solved.
I removed the preemtable-stuff out of the kernel (thanks for the tip, Jason)
and compiled openafs 1.3.81.
I solved the problem of the missing library by doing some symlinking, so I was
able to use the new version.
