Then when I wanted to start afs (service afs start) it ofcourse
complained about not being able to find the correct kernel module for
the kernel.
So I copied "libafs-2.4.22-1.2199.nptl_ssi_9smp.mp.o" to the
/usr/vice/et
my brief inspection suggests that the osi_groups.c & osi_machdep.c
files are part of the kernel module, so you won't need to delete anything,
just install the right binary module for your running kernel.

I think that install the "other" rpms and then copy the modules to the
right place idea.
What modules and binaries need to be moved ?
(and also, do I need to change any config files or anything else ?)

with the help of laura RAmirez I managed to get OpenAFS-1.2.13 compiled
for OpenSSI-1.2.2.
I installed the openafs-1.2.13-rh9.0.1.src.rpm and that's the stuff we
managed to compile.
Now, since I am a rookie at doing this, what do I need to do to create
those rpm's so that I can insta
