Hi Fred, I think it is a good strategy to raise prices but to still be open.
Unfortunately I can not participate in the event due to my limited budget but I would prefer to have an open event. I support Tim's view that it is neccessary to address also people outside the core community. But it mainly depends on your focus. What is your conference like? Is it more on strengthening collaboration between different FLOSS-HC projects and the community of developers in FLOSS-HC or do you also want to attract potential users and new developers for FLOSS HC. In the latter case try to be as open as possible. Being open raises your chance to have new FOFs at the end of the day :-).
