Here is what works for me (using mthca):
vic17:~ # cat /etc/dat.conf
OpenIB-cma-ip u1.2 nonthreadsafe default /usr/local/lib/libdapl.so mv_dapl.1.2
192.168.79.147 0
vic17:~ #
And ib1 has the above ip address:
vic17:~ # ifconfig ib1
