There are precompiled packages available.
Libmad is available from opencsw if you want a precompiled one
http://www.opencsw.org/packages/CSWlibmad0/
They only have libmatroska in version 1.1.0 if that is enough

I have currently built most libraries upon which VLC is dependant.
I am however having a problem with libdvbpsi-1.2.0 which is generating
the following error during compilation.
libtool: link: gcc -g -O2 -Wall -Werror --std=gnu99 -D_GNU_SOURCE
-Wpointer-arith -Wcast-align -Wcast-qual -Ws

VLC 2.2.0 compiles on oi-hipster.
