The create command actually fails with a different error: root@park:~# ipadm enable-addr rge0/addr ipadm: persistent operation not supported for enable-addr so I tried altering the .conf file which contained: _ifname=rge0;_families=26;_ifclass=0; _ifname=rge0;_aobjname=rge0/addr;_dhcp=-1,no;

I was trying to switch from fixed IP to DHCP and finally managed to get it to work but in the process, I created a dhcp addr on the interface with ipadm and now I can't get rid of it: root@park:~# ipadm ADDROBJ TYPE STATEADDR lo0/v4static ok
