I did the similar changes again and restarted the server and this time
it worked like a charm.

nopes, they are not blocking it...
when i make above mentioned setting to connect to 80, i am able to get
response, first page opens but it times out while trying to connect
through rtmpt..

This may or may not be of help but still can try...
Did you run install of openmeetings twice??
Check naviglobal table in the database, menu is built from entry in
this table, each action should be present only once.
