I see there are some lively debates now and as a maintainer,
it just isn't possible to dive into every discussion.

My approach to this, is to let discussions run their course
before applying patches. Usually there will be a flurry of
posts, some heated, and then usually after a week or so when
everybody has had their say and tempers cool, then
someone will come forward with a patch that satisfies everybody
as a step in the right direction that is enough of an improvement
on the current situation that it merits merging. When this happens,
then the community is functioning IMHO.

A more dysfunctional case is when there is a lot of posts,
much complaining, heated replies and no patch in sight. Oftentimes
all that is required is a bit of patience to wait for that patch.
