a web-search of "site:opensc-project.org jayacard" did give no results,
so I'd want to ask if the jayaCard project is known over here?
Unfortunately the project (http://sourceforge.net/projects/jayacard/)
seems abandoned now but what it has published looks really excellent:

It depends on, what your understanding of "work at last" is.
Within a restricted environmet (some distributions) it works fine.
I am running it on Fedora Core 4 and it is quite reliable.
