libltdl is linked against opensc long before I touched the build system. There are some minor advantages of using libltdl, the most relevant one is the common usage at Windows and *NIX. The other advantages relates to systems that do not support dynamic loading at all.
I don't think that OpenSC is usable at systems which do not support dynamic loading. And the Windows advantage is neglectable. Some work had done (libscdl), but needs completion. I suggest the following patchset to completely remove libltdl. If this is accepted, we remove from libp11 as well which is the last one on Gentoo tree at least that uses ltdl. I tested building on Linux, mingw64. Untested MSVC, martin, you have the environment, right?
