I'd agree; it's nice Java stops you shooting yourself in the foot like this, but from a design point of view I prefer to make sure I lock only once. My own code tends towards having method names that end with "WithLock" for the version to be called after locking, to differentiate easily...

Any chance of a number of times accessed field for assets, in addition to the access_time field? While I'm looking at the assets table, is there any specific reason why creation/access times are stored as integers rather than using actual date & time types? On 15 Jan 2009, at 00:24, Mike Ma

Absolutely agreed on the compatibility. There will be implementation quirks worth matching, but I think in most cases code can be made to work on both OS and SL easily enough, and will be more reliable for the thought put into it. If anyone has BSD licensed (because I'm not getting into rea

I think this illustrates extremely well why most of the devs don't want to touch a money system. Making a proper monetary system means ensuring that transactions happen, or do not, you can't get 7 copies of the same transaction that then have to be unpicked by hand. I wouldn't be averse to writing

No... SL appears to have CAS covered already, and just needs uploaded bytecode to be verified (so that the server knows it's not about to try running something broken). Frisby, Adam wrote: > Is this a project to implement CAS? > > Adam > >> -Original Message- >> From: opensim-dev-boun...

If you want to get deep into trust issues, the AW Groupies on Second Life, and/or Zero Linden's (once monthly) office hour would be good places to ask... The short answer though is we'd expect to see a number of "trust sources", and you then tell your grid to trust grids they approve (much like
