I am attempting to use the gData API to access OpenSocial as described here: http://code.google.com/apis/opensocial/docs/gdata/people/developers_guide_protocol.html However, I am running into a roadblock at every point.
The tutorial suggests using this URL: https://www.google.com/accounts/AuthSubRequest?scope=http%3A%2F%2Fsandbox.orkut.com%2Ffeeds%2F&session=1&secure=0&next=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.example.com%2Fwelcome.html If I copy and paste this URL, after logging in, I see the error: The "scope" parameter was bad or missing. Yes, I am registered for the sandbox, and I have also tried it with a variety of "next" urls, and If I replace the scope URL by another one, say the Calendar API URL it works but of course gives an incorrect scope. I suspect there is a documentation error in the OpenSocial gData pages. I've tried every combination of http/https, with/without sandbox in front, etc. to no avail. Is there any way to get the list of valid scope URLs. And if AuthSub is not to be used for OpenSocial, there ought to be a note saying so rather than a broken link in the API documentation. In that case, what is the proper authentication method to use? Do I need to use the ClientLogin method which means having to store the users' passwords? My next question, assuming that I log into a different scope like blogger or google base: If I access the URL http://orkut.com/feeds/people/me or http://orkut.com/feeds/people/me/friends. (With or without a sandbox in the hostname makes no difference) I end up with a 404 error if I am using HTTP, and even worse, if I use HTTPS, it redirects me to "http://www.google.com/"; with no indication of error or success. I assume I am doing something wrong, but I would like an error message that acknowledges that I am attempting to access a feed the wrong way rather than an absolutely meaningless 404 or 302 response.
