FWIW, I've been using 2.1.5 for some time, which I find quite stable, and
much more featureful than 2.0.4. As a user, I'd appreciate it if you'd
consider moving to the 2.1 line.
Thanks,
Danek
Danek:
Our strategy is to deliver community stable version to Opensolaris,
that's why we plan to ship 2.0.4 version. However, we will merge to
2.1.x version when it announced to become stable version.
Thanks,
Chris

That would make some sense if there wer
Been using GQView 2.1.5 for quite a while now, never had a single crash...
Danek is absolutely correct, gqview is not being worked on anymore and there
will most probably never be another release... So +1 to 2.1.5

Where does this tool fit amongst all the other image viewers/editors
that are already available in OpenSolaris (e.g. ImageMagick, eog, gthumb
& gimp)? What does gqview have that none of the others provide? Are any
of the others made obsolete by the addition of gqview?

We haven't shipped ImageMagick on Solaris, Gimp is a image editor tool,
it contains many image processing operations and filter, and can be used
to create special effect image. eog is a simple image viewer, the
advantage of eog is the launch speed, so we associate most of image

Well it's on my system. I think it was integrated with GNOME back in
'06? [LSARC/2006/202 GNOME 2.14] perhaps?

Yes, we have, since Solaris 10.See /usr/sfw/bin/convert, display, etc.

ImageMagick was integrated (into SFW) by the

I tested the 2.1.x release and found the new feature "pan view" has some
significant performance issue, I don't think we can ship the product
without fix this issue, I'll try to contact the maintainer to see if we
can work together to fix the problem. For the time being, we will stay

OK, So the decision is to ship 2.0.4 for the time being, since 2.1.x has
a significant performance issue.
If there any objections or further issues regarding this case, please
send and email before the deadline 07/22/2008. Or I'll close the case as
approved.

Chris:
Is it a good idea to integrate an application which hasn't been actively
maintained in a year-and-a-half, and which also has very similar
functionality to gthumb? While I appreciate giving users choice, I'm
not sure that a program which isn't being actively developed anymore is
the best "
Brian:
Although the gqview is not actively developed in the past one and half year,
there has no officially announcement the project is terminated.
Personnaly,I think gqview 2.0.4 is a very stable release, it will not spend
much effort to maintain it, and we are not going to ship it by default,

Just to be clear, I don't think my comments about how well Gqview is
maintained should affect whether this ARC case is approved or not.

So there's no blocking issues for this case, if there's no more
discussion for this case within 24 hours
I'll close this case as approved.
Thanks
