I had the same problem with Sun Update Manager and SUNWcry. It wouldn't install
in single user mode (when the system is shutting down). However, I found the
patch somewhere under /var and installed it as root in multi-user mode OK and
rebooted. This was with a Solaris 10 update.

Ahhh, since my zfs wasn't mounted due to disk failure my dir was created on the
root instead of my zfs.
Therefor my 2gb limt on files -- I said I was tired, didn't I ;-)

according to the above link zfs install is not possible at this stage and the
last update on this was the 25th Oct.
