Ah, ok, that clears things up a bit ;-)
I don't have a second box handy, so i'll need to hobby around a bit with VMware.
May take a couple of days, I appreciate your efforts though !
Thx,

Hey all,

Anybody know if this will be fixed in OpenSolaris 2010.xx?
When I say fixed, I mean either a fixed version of smbfs that can handle
My business is running a very mixed environment. We have both Linux and Windows
(and one Mac), and now I'm looking into adding OpenSolaris to the mix.
Our fileservers are all running Samba. On the Linux machines shares are
accessed using mount.cifs. Each user simply mounts the relevant shares
I think that this is a problem with VMware and not a problem with OpenSolaris,
and since VMware is a closed-source proprietary architecture, there is nothing
we can do to help since only VMware has the source code for their software. If
you purchased a support contract from VMware then you can
It's three years old!
Touche! I didn't even look at the date. Still the article was lame. I was
hoping for more outrage. Currently very disappointed with the lack of outrage
and snide remarks from the OpenSolaris community about this ;-)

I presume that Solaris simply doesn't implement the right functions.
I'd love to be corrected.
Ok zetetic, so I'll love to correct you then. I think Solaris actually does
implement the right functions for S.M.A.R.T., and you actually can get

If I need to recover a file from 10 days back, I just grab the
10 day old tarball and restore the file from that. All the remaining
tarballs remain as is. If I do the same with a ZFS snapshot, I'd have
to destroy all the snapshots done between the latest and the 10 day old

Hi,
I getting the error export: couldn't set locale correctly while trying to

Could someone encounter the same problem?

I've wondered about this one also. As long as you are behind the dhcp service
which has its own firewall and what I have tied behind a static IP the network

On the surface it looked like the perfect match: Run rsync, and when
done, take a ZFS snapshot.
It is, and if you turn on compression, it is better than perfect ;-)
And with dedup, it will be even better.
Compression and dedup are indeed cool. Be conscious of the side-effects.

Which shell are you using and which OS is this?
I'm guessing it's ksh, so I guess you're using Solaris 10? It could be
Bourne shell /bin/sh, but this also implies Solaris 10.
From the info you've given, I'd say the en_US locale is not installed.
locale -a will list all available locales.

I'm not sure who to tell or ask this, but I can provide a remote serial
check to see if you have the SUNWlang-enUS package installed.

It's clear you're misunderstanding something here.
