I can understand that a lot of people are upset about the way Sun acts by redirecting new people to #opensolaris. But I don't really understand how people can react hostile towards Indiana users (never really saw that by the way). I can also understand the lack of enthusiasm for Indiana (even though it was my first contact with Solaris and still is) since Solaris seems to loose it's own identity in favor of becoming more like Ubuntu. (most people who switch to Solaris are not happy with Linux, so why mimic it?) But splitting up all the communities into seperate channels seems to be the wrong way (well, a devel channel would make sense) at this point of time. Solaris is growing right now and growing always hurts but in the end everyone will benefit from it. There already is a channel for Project Indiana (#os200805) where mostly beginners are ideling not able to help each other due to lack of experience. New people need help from experienced users, but forcing those users to help by flooding them with "newbies" is the wrong way. On the other hands it would be cool if old-school users would discover their heart for us Indiana users, since a lot of us are pretty lost.
Can't we all just get along? Regards, Björn (Solaris newbie) This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
