Re: [osol-discuss] Possible IBM aquisition of Sun

2009-03-18 Thread Chris Steinke
If anyone were to buy Sun, I'd prefer Fujitsu, Hitachi or Siemens . NOT IBM! Fujitsu doesn't seem to be hurting as badly as the others. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org

[osol-discuss] Solaris Express on the new Mx000 series

2007-04-19 Thread Chris Steinke
Anyone here from Sun have Solaris Express working on the new Mx000 series systems yet? I'd be curious to hear about experiences with it. Mainly because I've heard that Fujitsu systems had some compatibility issues with Solaris Express and you needed to use Fujitsu's version of Solaris. The n

This is pretty much what I thought, being complete nonsense. I just thought it was so out there, that I wanted to 'confirm' the comment. Believe me I didn't write it! I just quoted Funny for a Linux site, it seems to give M$ better press than anything Sun does and then when somebody defe

I found this reading through the Slashdot thread about GPLing Java and the potentially of GPLing OpenSolaris. Something inference about Sun taking a bribe from MS to make OpenSolaris less 'free' or 'open'? Anybody know anything about this or it the usual FUD?

All of your points are quite valid and I have issues with them as well. But I was thinking something 'similiar' to but not exactly the current Gentoo portage system. I was thinking more along the lines of a super charged portage system with tools written in C or C++ and support for choosing w

Have you taken a look at the Gentoo portage system? I'm particularly fond of that, but I think with some reworking it would be a nice fit for OpenSolaris and the possibility of even building an Open Solaris kernel with your favorite tool chain. I think the portage tools could get a boost by be

I'm running OpenSolaris on a few different systems. I have a HP DL360 running Open Solaris with ZFS. It is used as an IDS server, with Snort logging to a MySQL database with BASE. I also have a V880 running Solaris Nevada Build 36. I'm currently using Veritas VxVM/FS 4.1 instead of ZFS. This ru

Hi All, Not sure if this should be posted here. Maybe in the 'drivers' forum. But I was wondering how many people have been able to get OpenSolaris Nevada Build 27 to install on an HP DL380 or DL580? Currently I've been wanting to test OpenSolaris on one of these machines, my entire facilit
