I have been using various linux distributions since the days of kernel v0.9 in the early 90s and was never totally satisfied with the experience. I always had to fiddle to get things working, and I'd rather do real work instead of babysitting the OS.
Today I installed 2009.06 and was blown away by the installer. It detected all of my devices (except my Intel SATA RAID which I had to configure as AHCI in the BIOS) including my Nvidia 8800GTX, configured X for my 30" screen (2560x1600) automagically, mouse, printer, everything just worked without having to install any driver or configure a thing. Then once I installed and logged-in for the first time, the darn thing looks so crisp and elegant. Fonts are gorgeous, the compiz fusion effects just work! Praise and glory to you guys, great work! I may switch once I become comfortable with the new userland.
