It depends on what Broadcom chipset is there. I also have Broadcom in my
Macbook Pro and I had to use NDIS wrapper (32-bit only mode) to get it
working. Some of them are supported out of the box.

Seems like problem with dma,
quite similar problem I had trying to install Ubuntu, I had to add
cdrom-detect/cdrom_hdparm=-d1
in the boot loader command line when booting.
In Solaris you can try adding
-B acpi-cd-dma-enabled=0
does it helps?
