Hi everyone, concerning the login screen way too large, you can fix it by deleting the lines on your xorg.conf file (i.e. /etc/X11/xorg.conf) You should delete all the lines that have higer resolution than your screen. Both vertically and horizontally. For the windows focus, I still have problems with the installation of the tools, but a trick is to launch the vmware-toolbox (i.e. /usr/bin/vmware-toolbox), this will permit to "loose" the focus of the vmware window, even if you have it in fullscreen mode on a external screen for exemple, without having to release the mouse.
