I assume you're getting the following message:
bleon...@solaris:~$ *su* Password: Roles can only be assumed by authorized users su: Sorry
If so, you need to add the root role to your account. Of course, you need privilege to do this. For me, this would be accomplished as follows:
bleon...@solaris:~$ *pfexec usermod -R root bleonard*
