From a coding standpoint, this might almost qualify for oss-bite-size,
but since it changes the protocol and could involve bringing in new code
from BSD, it would also seem a good simple case for getting an introduction
to Sun's ARC and legal review processes.

Solaris talk is still the ancient original BSD protocol, which
isn't compatible between different endianness machines.  It would
be amazingly cool if someone finally fixed this (hint! hint! opensolaris
anyone?) - I remember complaints over a decade ago about this, and people
installing ytalk to work around it.   I think the only reason no one
complains much anymore is that most people have moved to instant
messaging protocols like AIM, ICQ, etc. which are much more widespread
and provide more user-friendly interfaces.
