When Yong Sun (the "AlanC of China" IMNSHO :-) ) was still with Sun, he mentioned that the Chinese localization of OpenSolaris will closely follow that of Ubuntu. Perhaps as a result thereof, while the look-and-feel of os0906 otherwise stinks (vis-a-vis many recent Linux distros), its zh pages still stand substantially above those of Fedora and SuSE, two of the better knows desktop Linux distros. Fedora and SuSE have to be different from Ubuntu, because they share the same kernel. OpenSolaris, OTOH, doesn't have this "limitation" (my controversial thought anyway). Ubuntu and OpenSolaris have their respective strengths. For Ubuntu, it's their massive (& "salacious") army of developers and users. (During the alpha-beta-RC cycle Karmic, I submitted a bug report--and received over a couple hundred email responses!) But I also happen to know that there are a fairly large number of serious Ubuntu developers who are also salacious about the ZFS and DTrace, for example, that Solaris offers. If indeed we are willing to be a little bit more open-minded, there really should be no conflict b/t the two. Unlike many other Linux distros. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
