On OpenSolaris 2008.05 and later, software is managed using the pkg command. There is also a GUI on the "System" menu under "Administration". Updates for OpenSolaris *are* available - to update all packages to newer versions use the command "pkg image-update". See http://opensolaris.org/os/proj
