Yes, that is the source. There is also a private library
libsmbios and an equivalent kernel module. They need a bit
more code added to offer defense against the rubbish that
can come from some smbios

I've noticed that on the IBM machines I have here, Solaris's FMA
framework is able to determine that it is running on an IBM xSeries 346
model 8840.
An example of this is:
