How about
% export GST_PLUGIN_PATH=/opt/csw/lib/gstreamer-0.10; gst-inspect
gst-inspect can print out the information for GStreamer plugins you have
on your box. Do you have the mpeg video decoder in the list?
As the packages come from Blastwave, maybe you want to also try the
rhythmbox

I tried your command rhythm box opens and then this is what happens!! What
can i do now?
Rhythm box doesn crash.. its open and working fair but doesn play files..
