Hi List,

New to this list, but very familiar with (Open)Solaris, zfs etc. I'm a
Solaris admin hear at work, mostly on Sun hardware.

For my home server, I recently purchased a Dell PowerEdge sc440 when
they were blown out at $199. This system is on the HCL:

http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/systems/details/2831.html

I installed Opensolaris 0811 and it works fine with the supplied 2GB
RAM. When I max it out with 4GB RAM, it boots fine, but when I log in
and X starts, the system completely freezes, has to be powered off to
recover. Does anyone have any idea what's happening here? I'm thinking
that something is going on with shared memory with the video card or
such, but the dumbed down Dell BIOS interface doesn't offer much in the
way of control on memory mappings. Is there some switch I can put in
the grub boot line, or /etc/system to work around this? Any direction
much appreciated. My friend Google has come up empty.

Regards,

Jon
