All, I just recently installed Indiana on my ThinkPad T40, and have tried (unsuccessfully) to surf the internet using its wireless. The card is an Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 3B Mini-PCI utilizing the ipw driver. Through discussions with Cynthia Li, we have ruled that neither the driver nor the network AP's are the problem, but rather that the wireless radio is not turning on. Therefore, I get error messages like:
ipw: [ID 451854 kern.warning] WARNING: ipw0: ipw: RADIO is OFF I believe that Fn+F5 is supposed to activate the wireless, but these keys don't seem to help. Using wificonfig or dladm I am able to associate with the network, but then ifconfig ipw0 dhcp fail. I tried following the advice of paulgres in this forum posting: http://72.5.123.5/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=159267 where it was recommended that pins 11 and 13 of the Mini-PCI card be covered with tape. This hasn't worked either. User jzhang20 seems to have some success at the end with his X40 by replacing the installed card with an IBM Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Mini-PCI. My questions are therefore: 1) Has anyone in this forum been able to get the wireless card in their ThinkPad T40 to work? 2) If not, is it possible for me to replace the 2100 3B card with a 2200 BG? I read that the BIOS would have a problem if such a change was made. Again, the problem is not associating with the wireless network or AP, but rather that I cannot obtain an IP address. On a related note, the wired ethernet can obtain an IP address using DHCP from the router without any problems. Thanks in advance! -Ricardo- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
