Hi all,
While trying to set the keyboard layout using the kbd -s <layout name> I see that no matter what I set the layout as , It defaults to US-english..(or so i guess!)
Recently I tried kbd -s German.
Exit status says 0, But ,
# eeprom |grep keyboard
keyboard-layout=Unknown

This is the same case when i went through the bootenv.rc file as well.
Why is this happening?
What does Unknown mean?

I also tried changing the keyboard layout and rebooted, still the same issue persists. How do i verify that the layout has indeed changed to German( or whatever language).

PS: This is something that I've been trying to figure out from a very very long time.
I've asked about this issue on the IRC with very little help..
This is very important to me.. Please assist.

Thanks
Shampavman

I've had issues setting keyboard stuff up as well, e.g. my PS2 keyboard
is always configured as USB, 87 key boards are still seen as 104, etc.
Never invested requisite time to get to the bottom of it, but I think
something may be being done HALD side that over rides. Checking file

/etc/hal/fdi/preprobe/10osvendor/10-x11-input.fdi

and man hal(5), man fdi(4) might be a start.

Note
I also think that there could be bug in kbd toolkit itself.
Like i said , during the installation I changed the layout to 'German' . after the machine was up I verified that the layout was indeed set as wanted..
Then to verify , I used 'kbd -s ' and set it to US-English..
After a reboot I still see that the same layout is set.
Will be raising a bug shortly.
