Check out NetBSD's pkgsrc system (it's not just for NetBSD). Lots of
useful stuff.
- Source based, however you can build binary packages and distribute
those
- can create SysV Solaris packages (not sure how well that works)
It's quite nice.

Well, it's been a month or two since the last time I brought this up, but I've
seen no progress being made or even further discussion concerning the issues I
raised originally. Is it possible we could get a status report, as I'm hopeful
Sun *is* working on this.
