Did you try shutting the system down by opening up a BASH command line
interface and typing in this command:
pfexec init 5
at the $ command prompt?

And if so, where? It's referenced in several of the Solaris 11-08 manuals
and some blogs, but I can't find the actual manual anywhere.
What I'm looking for is more information on CIFS sharing in Solaris. I'm

You don't want to just use the beadm command to roll back to an earlier build?
This is what I usually did when I had problems after upgrading to a newer build.

If you want IPS package management so badly, then why don't you use the
"Indiana" version of OpenSolaris (i.e. 2008.11) which comes on a CD-ROM instead
of the "Nevada" version of OpenSolaris (Solaris Express) which comes on a DVD.
Indiana is for people who want newer technologies like IPS. SXCE

I've fixed my sshfs problem, it was an incompatibility between the default

I am trying to install magento on AMP and have installed the AMP package

The AMP package does not seem to contain the mcrypt module which is needed by

Being new to opensolaris what is the best way to add this functionality to PHP?

I compiled mplayer from an svn checkout, dropped it into /usr/local/bin, added
that to my PATH, and everything has been working fine.
Doing that is much easier than dealing with third party packages, IMO.

I was trying to download VLC and mplayer from the Blastwave repository and
neither one would work. I just kept getting an install error over and over
again - something about a missing directory.
Any other place these media players are available from?

a) Boot from FC9 and toggle the BOOT flag from /sda3 to /sda1
b) Reboot
c) Now boot with the OpenSolaris 2008.11 text option (GRUB)
d) Strangely, system maintenance got invoked due to Console login issue.
e) Logged in with the user to get the root acces

My latest new install is sxce104. Root does not have the button as a menu item.
I've just been doing su ; password ; then init 5 or init 6. It was more
convenient with menu item button.
