Whwnever you change the nsswitch.conf you need to restart the name
service cache to reread the nsswitch.conf.
svcadm restart system/name-service-cache:default
The /etc/resolv.conf should NOT include your router and "man
resolv.conf" explains how it should be populated.

OK, I tried copying the nsswitch.conf file from nsswitch.dns. That, by itself,
didn't work.
I tried adding a nameserver line to resolv.conf that contained the IP address
of my router, and that didn't work either.
I tried them both together also.
Any other ideas?

Also make sure you have a file called # cat /etc/resolv.conf
search domain_name_from_wireless_dhcp_router_dns_entry_or_pc_ipconfig
nameserver ip_address_from_wireless_dhcp_router_dns_entry_or_pc_ipconfig

You could enable the mdns-Stuff:
# cd /etc
# cp nsswitch.conf nsswitch.con.old
# cp nsswitch.dns nsswitch.conf
# svcadm enable /network/dns/multicast

Hi!
I tried Opensolaris snv_123 running under VMware Fusion 2.0.5 and 2.0.6b1 but
cant get it to boot. After the grub menu the kernel panics and reboots. I
redirected one of the serial ports to a file and this is what I get:

I don't know why, but installing adblock plus on more recent firefoxes will
cause it to crash with a segmentation fault. try it in safe mode and disable
adblock plus and you should be ok.

Is that a typo? OpenSolaris 2009.11 does not exist.
Or is it OpenSolaris 2008.11? That does exist,
but it was based on kernel build 101, IIRC...

I just installed opensolaris, and I'm trying to access the system by using
putty from a windows machine on the same network. I can access it fine if I
address it by its IP address, but not by host name. SCP acts the same way.
Any suggestions?
