the problem with solaris is there is no support and its very complicated - you
can pick up things here n there but in my experience all my data is on it and
nobody can help me get it off there. you surely dont want to get into that
situation. ive been on this forum a month and nobody can figure

I suppose you may cringe, but, I am more confused now. In the link you posted,

Ahh, I think mine might be some kind of winmodem.
Do you know if you can get 'real' modems that are half high, because my
computer can only take a half high PCI card

I am new to OpenSolaris. I have just burnt a disk and installed it. I have 2
drivers to get installed. First is most important, the Ethernet driver. I have
seen posts around the net of people downloading a driver to install but have
not found one. Where do I look?
I did scanpci and got this info
Hello,
Please excuse my ignorance as a totally new user of OpenSolaris (and unix/linux
systems!).
Is there a way to easily install alternative window mangers such as Openbox or
Fluxbox for this system? I've got two questions that are more specific:
1. Are there any specific tips for compiling an
No, I don't have a spare drive to test this on.

Hello,
I am a new user running OpenSolaris 2009.06 under VirtualBox 3.0.8 and it takes
almost 5 minutes for it to boot up. Is this normal behaviour? Somehow I
expected boot times to be much faster than this! Is there anything I could do
to optimise boot performance?
Thanks!

Hello,
I have OpenSolaris 2009.06 running on VirtualBox 3.0.8 with Mac OS X 10.5.8
host. I've tried for a week with no success to get sound to work in this
system. I've followed the instructions to remove the original audiohd drivers
and replace it with OSS from this blog entry:

I suspect that this is some low level kernel / driver issue.
How exactly is installing OpenSolaris instead of SX:CE
going to help in this case, since both share the same
ON core kernel bits?

If your modem is some type of winmodem (softmodem) then I think that you can't
use it under Solaris/OpenSolaris. You will need real modem.

SXCE support will end this month. Recommended solution is OpenSolaris. So
install OpenSolaris.

Did you check the Xorg and gdm log files for
errors ?

Hello.
My computer is a laptop HP dv9000 (dv9790ef to be precise). I've installed SXCE
B124. During the first reboot, an error message appears, but the computer
finally booted and I can use SXCE.
I reboot the computer. Again the message, but it is not possible to complete
the boot. Periodicall
