truss -fc groupadd will tell you a lot; if you're making
lots of calls to door_info and door_call this is what is going
on...

Try assigning the user id yourself and see if that helps.

ing to uninstall drivers from a running
system; since this can render the machine unbootable the packaging
system doesn't allow it.
I suggest the following:
beadm create -a 'new-be-name'
beadm mount 'new-be-name' /mnt
pkg -R /mnt uninstall NVDAgraphics SUNWaudiohd
ls, the source code is the documentation.
Interfaces in the kernel that are not part of the DDI are subject
to change at essentially the will of the kernel developers.

Can you ssh in locally?
eg ssh localhost
or
ssh `localhost`?
You can prob. fix this by running
/lib/svc/method/sshd -c
as root.

Filed as bug
6451 We should ship memtest86 as boot option on live CD
It was filed in bugster as 6312987 in 2005, but we may have more
luck fixing this in opensolaris quickly.

Update SUNWipkg first.
pkg install SUNWipkg at 0.5.11-0.86
Later updates resolve most of the download issues, but

Hmmm did you copy this by hand? install should do the right
thing...
If this fails trying to load the console framebuffer,
you'll need to boot your failsafe archive from the grub
menu.

Once the above works, be sure to unmute sound in gnome using the

I can recommend a realtek nic such as Netgear's ga311 as
working well under Solaris out of the box.

it sounds like it's somehow ignoring the
keyboard. Is this PS2 or USB? There's a bios switch
for USB keyboard support that may help.
When you have a chance, does unplugging the Adaptec improve
matters?

I use an Ultra20 look-alike at home. This works well. You can
of course get these at a discount as you work for Sun. Mine

Perhaps you might want to fill us in as to the number of
processors, intended, use, etc.
For a desktop, you can get a nice
If you can, use a 64 bit CPU. AMD mobos generally work pretty
well; the NVidia chipsets seem to be pretty well supported and
the Hypertransport works nicely for memory bandwidth intensive
loads such as zfs. ZFS likes RAM.
If you're going to use small drives (250 GB are now small :-)),

Do you mean you don't want a graphical login? Or you wish to
prevent users from selecting CDE as a desktop?
or what files I need to check to make sure its setting them. Any hints?

What does the locale cmd output?
Your locale is screwed up, either in your login or
in /etc/default/init.
