Any version of OpenSolaris that you download IS the 64-bit version.
You just download the ISO and burn it to a CD and boot it up on an amd 64-bit
CPU and you now have a 64-bit UNIX operating system.
OpenSolaris is much smarter than Linux and Microsoft Windows are in that it can

I don't know if there is a working version of NTFS-3G in the IPS repository

I believe you can search for NTFS in the package manager to get the appropriate
ntfs progs and tools. Can't remember if it is in the release repository or
contrib repository though.
I do remember Wine 1.0 is in /contrib, and there is a newer version on Solaris
Freeware that I haven't tried.
1) If it is a pkg file, you will need to use the pkgadd command as root or
execute with pfexec as a privileged user. Example:
pfexec pkgadd -d ./mypackage.pkg
type "man pkgadd" for more information
If you updated to a new boot environment via the package manager, you'll have

I've just installed OpenSolaris on my PC, this is the first time that I've
tried any other operating system (properly) outside of Windows - and so this
whole experience seems foreign, confusing and scary to me.
Anyways, I'm slowly stumbling my way through things, and I've hit a few snags

Well it looks like you're just about there. If you have valid vtoc on the
device then you should be able to use it. Not sure why you can't see it in the
gui. Maybe you need to log out and back in again? Or try a devfsadm -v but if
you can see it in format that is probably not necessary.

Enable the kernel debugger.
Edit the grub boot menu entry when you're in grub:
remove the splashimage, foreground and background

Hello.
I have a simple question - how to say openSolaris not to reboot on crash while

And why solaris said that 'livemode=vesa' is unused command(I put it in GRUB

There is no special 64-bit version.
The standard version (x86/x64) includes both 32- and 64-bit kernels,
and 32-bit / 64-bit bit user land libraries and programs.
