Where does it default to US-english?
On the ASCII text console?
Or in the Xorg / GUI environment?

see that no matter what I set the layout as , It defaults to
US-english..(or so i guess!)
Recently I tried kbd -s German.
Exit status says 0, But ,
# eeprom |grep keyboard
keyboard-layout=Unknown

Using Tonmaus' suggestion about xvnc-inetd instead of "Desktop Sharing" got me
going in the right direction. Then the post by kimc at the bottom of this

I've also noted a "warm" boot (i.e., restart option on the shutdown menu) from
snv_133 does successfully boot snv_134. It's just the cold boot that fails.

i ran into difficulties when trying to upgrade my osol 2008.11 installation to
2009.06. Donwloading packages stops at the firefox-package everytime i try it.
last week on another installation it worked like a charm. is there anything
wrong in the repository?

Could fix the problem. It was rather simple in the end.
I tried my luck with OSOL 2008.11 and ... it just booted fine. Had to install
the CPQary3-Controller-Drivers manually and then i was able to install OSOL.
Upgrade to 2009.06 and SNV134 worked like a charm.

if you only need a remote session on your server, activating xvnc-inetd might
be preferable over joining the local Gnome session. Just activate it in
Services. "Xserver that displays on vnc viewers..."
If you were upgrading from 2009.06, you might need to fix a couple of things
