I have tried earlier versions (2-3 years old) and I got 2-3MB/sec read speed.

Before you do anything at all, you should make a ZFS snapshot (called BE - Boot
Environment). With BE you can instantly roll back if something is messed up.
Just choose which snapshot you want to boot into, in GRUB.

For HDD info, you can use the "format" command. But you need root access to do
that.
Just type "format" as root, and it will show you all discs. Then you can just
quit the program.

Who runs Dedup anyway? The dedup code was just recently integrated into b134.
b134 is just a checkout from the source repositories, every other week. Dedup
has not been released into an official Solaris distro. Until then, it is in
alfa stage (not even beta) and not to be trusted.

NTFS mount is not supported. It is only a hack. And not a good working one. The
best solution is to attach the drive to another computer and copy via the
network, via CIFS.

Then I just tried to mount c7d0p1, and if that didnt work, I tried to mount

ZFS is not that heavy on parity calcs. But you need a 64bit CPU to get speed. I
had a 32bit CPU Pentium 2.4GHz and got 20-30MB/sec. With 64bit CPU I get over
100MB/sec.
You should also benchmark a three raidz2 with 8 drives in each vdev, versus two
raidz2 with 12 drives in each vdev.

I dont understand your question.
You can migrate all your data from a zpool to another zpool. You can not have
the same discs in both zpools. The discs must be separated. If you want to copy
data to another zpool, use
# zfs snapshot tank/m...@now
# zfs send tank/m...@now | zfs receive newTank/m
And to the CIFS group.
PS. If you have that many drives in a raid, you should split them up into two
vdev. And preferably use raidz2 instead of raidz1. Because if the drives are
large, it takes very long time to resilver a zpool. With large 2-3TB drives it
might take several days. Resilvering

You could install OpenSolaris inside the free VirtualBox. Maybe this would be
your best bet?

AMD64 means you have a 64bit CPU, x86 means 32bit. I think that the Core Duo
E6850 is 64bit? Hence, it is correct with AMD64 for you. Solaris/OpenSolaris

succeed better. SPEC files (as I understand it) is Solaris make changes to
Linux make files. SPEC files takes the Linux make file and apply Solaris
