I am having a hang problem on the first boot after install, too. BTW, I have a
Toshiba notebook too (although a Satellite, not Tecra). However, my problem
seems to be with the kernel or some module that gets loaded and freezes
everything. Could our problems be somehow related?

The new user will freeze CDE when running the solaris management console. Then
when I logged in as root again it didn't freeze over time. So I'm not sure
what is up, but I do know it involves lots of ice.

I had this problem too on a single-hdd Nforce2 system. A new user created
manually is working, however!

I created a vanilla userid and that login works fine. So, the problem is
somehow related to the 'root' login.

hi rek,
i'm saw the same thing and more on my dell inspiron 6000. clean install, first
reboot and i get gnome started and then boom- it locks-- i think i was trying
to launch a terminal or in the menu when it happened. i have to hold in the
power button to get it to reboot and then i get back
