I haven't booted my OpenSolaris recently. When I did today, the X server
crashed again as I previously described in this thread. However, this is a
clean reinstall of the system *without* the VM additions. The backtrace is not
the same as what is shown in the bug report you mentioned.

What stack backtrace is logged to /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Does it look similar to the stack backtraces in defect 8993?

It certainly does look similar to the bugs you referenced. It's hard to tell
off hand if it is the exactly same, however. I'm running the 32 bit guest (my
processor is only 32 bits). If by "CPU virtualization" you mean VT-x/AMD-V then
that is disabled.

I decided to go ahead and reinstall. Once I saw that OpenSolaris ran fine from
the Live CD in my new VirtualBox, I figured there was a good chance that it
would run fine once reinstalled.
