I am having exactly the same problem.
My ISP has a content server which caches the most visited sites (my
SUSE 10.2 has no problem to access). However my SUSE 10.2 could never
open a less frequent website. But if I use my windows, there is no
problem to access at all and the speed is as fast

Quick quick, I am having issue with the new menu style of gnome and
kde in 10.2, only because I use my box work and need to be able to
grab a problem quickly and the new style is slowing way way down. I
have found out in KDE how to switch back to old style. But gnome, I
don't see anyway
