imho from a general perspective, this will never work successfully.

Either use Linux to demonstrate Linux or simply do not do it.
Even vmware will do if you do not have anything else than a windows.machine.

That works but unfortunately demonstrates how slow Linux is (while being
demonstrated).
However I successfully used this to show how to access my openoffice
presentation on the laptop from a desktop computer running Knoppix, that
was connected to the beamer.
