Mates,
I have recently built X from source using the xorg modular tree in order
to be able to use a 22inch lcd at 1680x1050 on my SuSE 10 install. The
resulting display is awesome, but dri will not load because of a kernel
driver mismatch. The relevant Xorg.0.log is:
(EE) intel(0): [dri] I830DRIScreenInit failed because of a version mismatch.
[dri] i915 kernel module version is 1.1.0 but version 1.3 or greater is
needed.
[dri] Disabling DRI.
(II) intel(0): [drm] removed 1 reserved context for kernel
(II) intel(0): [drm] unmapping 8192 bytes of SAREA 0xf9358000 at 0x4002c000
I need to know what is the easiest/smartest way to go about
obtaining/building a new kernel with the proper i915 driver version. Does
SuSE have any development kernel binaries that would work? If so, where do I
find them. If not, does anybody know of a good link to a howto for building
new SuSE kernels from scratch. I would hate to blow away my install by
attempting to compile and install a new kernel without knowing exactly how
to do it, including how to include all of the correct drivers for the intel
board in the Dell Optiplex the system is running on.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
