Well I have now some conclusions about what and how is happening:
first, here is the part of my fstab regarging dvdrom units:
/dev/dvd /media/dvd subfs
noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
/dev/dvdrecorder /media/dvdrecorder subfs

My /etc/fstab line is:
/dev/dvdram /media/dvdramsubfs
noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
And I have no problem whatsoever accessing the DVD from either /media/dvdram
or media:/
