I tried that intrbiz approach, and it was easy enough to hollow out an
ubuntu image.
Copying the SUSE image into that and booting it, also fabulously
worked.
Even updating that 13.1 image to the latest state was possible.
The system was dead after I dist-upgraded to 13.2
