[opensuse-factory] Sounds with pidgin

Running the latest openSUSE RC with updates and pidgin produces no sound for me. The environment is KDE and both ALSA and ESD are running. Sounds are enabled in pidgin preferences. Looking for some culprits here...pidgin issue, sound system, etc.? Any guidance appreciated. -
