Hi all, This week-end, the Libre Software Meeting took place in Strasbourg, France. The Alionet association held a booth in order to promote the openSUSE project and the GNU/Linux it builds. It was also an opportunity for us to meet new people and make them know Alionet, the french speaking openSUSE community.
Our booth was in the associative village, beside our friends from several projects, such as Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu and Mageia. Even if the event drew less people than the last event we attend (JDLL or Libre Software Days in Lyon), I met quite a lot of long time openSUSE users. Some of them has used SUSE or openSUSE back in 2007 to 2010 but switched. There were really happy to get news from the project and to see openSUSE represented during the event. A lot of people were surprised to see us and some of them didn't even know what openSUSE is, unlike other well known projects such as Debian or Ubuntu. I had the same feeling when I held an openSUSE booth in Lyon. I think this clearly shows a lack of representation of openSUSE in the french FOSS ecosystem. This is an issue that we, at Alionet, are determined to address. As usual, the openSUSE goodies are always appreciated. The association made USB keys with Leap 15.0 live on it so that curious users can test it before installing. If everything goes well, we will be present at the following FOSS events : - Capitole du Libre in Toulouse, France in novembre - Paris OpenSource Summit in... guess what...
