Thank you for your answer. I downgraded libgnutls on the Arch system from 3.0.21
to 2.10.5 - downgrading Debian would have been a major project.
I can now log in to OpenVAS, and everything seems to be working.

Please, Check the libgnutls you have ?
you may see in other posts on forum that openvas encountered trouble
with libgnutls 2.12.x , better to use 2.10.x
I hope this help and that this is the main problem.
