I have a draft in progress for an OpenVPN Wire protocol RFC. It is far from
complete, but most of the control and data channels are mostly covered. The
more tricky areas like user/password authentication as well as static/dynamic
challenge and most of the crypto details are not yet covered.

But what has been already written needs a thorough review as well. My work
method so far has been more like "brain dump approach". Read code for a
feature, get some basic understanding of it and dump it into a textual form,
formatted and wording it for an RFC target. It is far from perfect and
polished, but it's a start.

We (community and OpenVPN Inc) are very much interested in getting at least
the draft process moving forward. Not sure how suitable this task is as a
full blown open "development" process. But I am definitely keen on getting a
few more persons willing to be involved in moving this RFC forward. So if you
are interested, please get in touch with me and we'll figure out the path
forward.
